Library Institute Creates
21st-Century Web Site for New
Generation of Industry Professionals
The Chartered Institute of Library
and Information Professionals (CILIP),
the leading organisation in the
United Kingdom for librarians and
information specialists, wanted a
Web site that would integrate with
its back-end membership database.
Working with cScape Strategic
Internet Services, a Microsoft® Gold
Certified Partner and leading Web
development agency, CILIP
re-designed its Web site, migrated
to Microsoft Content Management
Server 2002, and integrated the
subscription database. For the first
time it is giving external CILIP
branches and internal departments
the opportunity to manage their own
content. Web pages which previously
took a week to prepare are now done
in minutes. The solution includes
advanced personalisation and
registration for CILIP members
through the implementation of
Microsoft BizTalk® Server 2004. The
Web site is now at the heart of
every activity CILIP undertakes and
is helping the organisation to
recruit and retain members.

Microsoft® Integrated Portal

Microsoft Windows Server System™,

Microsoft Business Solutions–Navision®
system (now part of Microsoft

Wortmann to develop partner-based,
targeted marketing. Retail partners
can order product online, saving
Wortmann approximately €29,400

Tommy Hilfiger Delivers Full-Scale
Online Retail Presence in Less Than
Six Months
After a year of attempting to
develop an online retail presence
using Linux, Tommy Hilfiger had made
little progress. The company had six
months to complete the project and,
beyond that, had to address a set of
legacy applications that no longer
met its needs. Working with Cactus

Hilfiger met both goals by
standardizing on Microsoft®

its new solution, Tommy Hilfiger
gains a unified information
infrastructure that extends from the
company’s online presence to its
global retail and wholesale
operations and upon which new
applications that improve business
capabilities can rapidly be
deployed. Tommy Hilfiger anticipates
new business capabilities, an
estimated 25–30 percent decrease in
IT operating costs, improved
competitive advantage, and an
additional return on investment
through compressed product design

Nonprofit Organization Enhances
Operational Efficiency, Cuts Costs
The American Bible Society, a
nonprofit organization that sells

information needed to be replicated,
and managers were unable to obtain
up-to-date reports. In addition, the
system was time-consuming and costly

Costco Web Division More Than
Triples Sales with E-Commerce
Solution
Costco.com operates the Web site of
Costco Wholesale Corporation, a
pioneer in the world of wholesale
buying clubs. Only three years after
enabling online purchasing on the
site, Costco.com generated nearly
U.S.$100 million in online
revenue—and had outgrown its
e-commerce management system. Unable
to handle increasing Web traffic
volume, the existing system was
difficult to support and required
that the IT staff handle every
update to the Web site, which often
took days rather than hours. As a
result, Costco lost sales
opportunities. To solve these
problems, Costco.com migrated to
Microsoft® Commerce Server 2002. The
solution easily handled the growing
volume of online sales, which more
than doubled the first year. It also
gave business managers the tools
they needed to manage most Web site
updates, relieving the IT staff of
these tasks and freeing more than 50
percent of their time.

Restaurant and Hospitality Company
Boosts Business with Improved Web
Presence
|
Levy
Restaurants,
a
growing
restaurant
and
hospitality
company,
wanted
to
overhaul
its
Web
site
to
better
reflect
its
brand
online.
The
site
needed
to
be
easy
to
update
and
make
it
easy
to
deliver
information
to a
diverse
audience
base,
including
potential
employees,
patrons,
partners,
and
the
media.
Levy
Restaurants
decided
to
build
its
new
site
using
Microsoft®
Solution
for
Internet
Business,
including
Microsoft
ASP.NET,
Content
Management
Server
2002,
and
Commerce
Server
2002
Enterprise
Edition.
The
solution
gave
Levy
a
consolidated
environment
in
which
to
extend
its
brand
online
yet
helped
to
lower
the
cost
of
site
maintenance
and
employee
recruiting.
With
the
solution,
the
company
also
increased
revenue,
seeing
private
bookings
increase
5
percent
and
restaurant
bookings
from
the
Web
site
double
in
the
first
five
weeks
after
launch.

Online Retailer Increases Revenue,
Customer Satisfaction with New
e-Commerce Portal
|
Originally
a
mail-order
fashion
retailer,
Bon’A
Parte
Postshop
A/S
(Bon’A
Parte)
believes
the
immediacy
and
convenience
of
online
shopping
matches
its
target
audience
of
busy
professional
women.
Bon’A
Parte
wanted
in
2002
to
expand
its
business
through
a
new
online
storefront.
The
company
needed
a
reliable
business-to-consumer
portal
solution
to
grow
its
online
business.
Bon’A
Parte
chose
Microsoft®
Commerce
Server
2002
and
integrated
it
with
an
in-house
mainframe
order
system.
Since
launching
the
new
site,
Bon’A
Parte
has
increased
online
sales
by
80
percent,
increased
the
average
value
of a
sales
transaction,
and
improved
its
customers’
shopping
experience—at
the
same
time
reducing
site
management
costs.

Law Firm Boosts Productivity, Client
Satisfaction with Online Solution
|
Pellerano
&
Herrera,
a
prestigious
law
firm
in
the
Dominican
Republic,
traditionally
conducted
business
using
a
largely
manual
and
decentralized
communication
and
data-dissemination
process.
To
address
the
inefficiencies
of
this
approach,
the
firm
deployed
an
information-management
Web
portal
based
on
the
Microsoft®
Windows
Server™
2003
operating
system,
Microsoft
SQL
Server™
2000,
Microsoft
ASP.NET,
and
Web
services.
As a
result,
the
firm
is
using
its
technology
more
efficiently,
streamlining
processes,
and
simplifying
archiving
and
case
tracking.
The
firm's
200
employees
work
more
collaboratively
since
they
can
now
access
an
archive
of
240,000
documents
through
a
single,
centralized
point.
The
firm's
60-plus
forms
used
for
gathering
information
are
interactive,
helping
to
ensure
they
collect
comprehensive
information.
Case-tracking
is
fully
automated
and
centrally
accessible.

Government Department Pioneers
Technology Enhancement for Better
Flexibility and Choice
|
The
U.K.
Department
for
Education
and
Skills
(DfES)
is
developing
communication
and
information
services
for
schools
that
offer
users
flexibility
and
choice.
A
key
goal
is
to
develop
new
forms
of
communication
that
put
schools
in
charge
of
the
information
they
receive
so
there
is
less
paper
and
better
use
of
technology,
more
up-to-date
information
and
ideas,
and
better
support
for
high
standards
of
teaching
and
learning.
Working
with
Capgemini,
the
Department
for
Education
and
Skills
deployed
a
Microsoft®
Windows®–based
integration
solution
that
uses
Web
services
to
provide
the
links
between
an
online
ordering
system
and
a
third-party
fulfillment
company.
The
solution
provides
greater
choice
to
schools
by
allowing
users
to
order
just
the
documents
they
need.
